Digital Camera Training

>> Tuesday, 27 January 2009

Digital SLR Training was set-up by Tony Tomlinson after spending many hours helping beginners to understand and use their new DSLR and compact cameras. With an ever increasing number of people spending hundreds of pounds on the latest cameras, yet still using them in fully automatic mode, there is a huge amount of creative potential waiting to be released. With very little training available for beginners, or more specifically, training that positively motivates individuals as well as covering the core knowledge of photography, the course is designed to be fun, engaging and motivating.
Tony is a full time professional photographer and as such is constantly in touch with the latest developments in digital photography technology and techniques. He is a digital darkroom expert yet has the ability to communicate difficult concepts and techniques in a simple and concise manner.

The Course

These intensive courses will suit anyone from the complete novice to intermediate photographer. Many photographers tend to use their camera on the full auto setting and want to learn how to get much better pictures from their new camera by using the other settings.
All the courses start off with the absolute basics and progress, step by step, through to some of the more technical aspects. Each theoretical lesson is followed by a demonstration.

What you will learn

When to use Auto, Program, S, TV,A, AV or Manual settings.
All about ISO and which setting to use in which lighting.
The difference between image size and image quality.
How to use the flash settings and fill in flash.
The various auto focus settings and when to use them.
Composition and the correct use of the zoom lens.

The Approach to Weddings

My work is about real life. I approach each subject and assignment with the goal of capturing life and moments as they are. I photograph as an observer, not a director. I try to stay in the background and allow events to happen naturally. That allows you to live your day, and allows me to make the most meaningful images! For weddings, I like to arrive when you first start getting ready in the morning, and stay till the very end of the reception. I want to be there for everything! It's not possible to capture moments if you're not there to witness them. The extra time I spend with you in the morning will pay off big time later in the day. After a while you'll forget that I'm there and you'll stop paying attention to the camera. That's when great moments happen! Most couples want some artistic and fun portraits as well as real photojournalism. At weddings, I love to spend time with just the bride and groom making images. Often this is the first chance you will get to be alone as a new couple. We'll take a little time to step away from the crowd to some beautiful locations. I'll give you some loose directions and coaching, and we will let moments happen naturally. What a great chance to make images that will last a lifetime!
